2010 Detroit Shrine Circus News
Dear Nobles and Families,

I wanted to take a moment to bring everyone up to speed about our plans for a circus next year.  In short, YES we're planning to have a circus in 2010, and YES we're hoping to have it at the Michigan State Fairgrounds on April 8-11, 2010.

The latest news regarding the funding status of the fairgrounds property for 2010 is that the House and Senate Appropriations Sub-Commitee's have earmarked sufficient funding to keep the property open (at least for another year, more about that later) and that the Governor has promised not to line-item veto the funding.  We must ensure this happens!

I urge each of you to immediately telephone, fax letters or e-mail your respective Senator's and State Representatives to voice our support to keep the funding in place for future Michigan State Fair events. Remind your elected officials that Detroit is the home of the worlds first Shrine Circus and the worlds longest running state fair, and that Moslem Shriners have hosted millions of circus goers at the Coliseum since 1925 and contributed 10's of millions of dollars to the state of Michigan in rental fees in that time. You can locate their contact information by using the links below:

Please act NOW and get your voices heard.  Please pass this message along to all your friends and family.....our 3,700 Shriner members can spread this e-mail to tens of thousands of people in a matter of a few hours.  Together, we can make this happen.

Stay tuned to http://detroitshriners.com/ for breaking updates and other links to support the Michigan State Fairgrounds.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me.

Noble of the Month - September, 2009

Noble Chuck Baer - Oriental Guide
Noble of the Month - September, 2009

This Months “Noble of the Month” is Oriental Guide, Chuck Baer.

Although, members of the Divan are expected to be leaders, there are times when one or more of them go “above and beyond” their expectations.

During the past few months, Noble Baer has far surpassed my expectations.

Not seeking recognition, he has undertaken several tasks which have been very demanding.

One of those is the coordinating of the transition of our rental facilities from a lease agreement to a Management Staff. Working with the Divan, our attorneys, transitions team , office and catering personnel, he has spent endless hours seeing that the transition to Shriners Silver Gardens went as smoothly as possible.

Agreeably, he has had lots of help, and I will not start naming names in this article. However, without his many concentrated hours of dedication, coordination and professional approach to the many obstacles that we faced, this could not have been accomplished.

I wish to publicly thank Noble Oriental Guide Charles “Chuck” Baer and name him as “Noble of the Month” for September.

Ill. Joel Ozment, Potentate
