Hospital Fund Drive - Thank You Nobles!

To All The Hardworking Shriners.......

A tremendous thank you to each and every Shriner that took time on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, yes some even worked on Sunday, to collect funds for our Shriners Hospitals For Children.  The effort taken to be at the various sites and greet the folks coming and going, handing out our "Shriners Paper" and remembering to thank those that contributed monies to our cause, is most appreciated!

As I traveled to the various sites with PP Dick Frembes and clowns "Racer" and "Rogie" aboard our Shriners Child Care Coach, I gained and even greater appreciation for the support of the public showed for our guys in the "Red Buckets!"  We encountered several folks that had had a first-hand experience with a patient, be it a relative or a friend, of our hospitals.

While attempting to secure clearance to solicit funds at the Troy Walmart (unsuccessful due to the stringent requirements of the City of Troy - that is for now!) I encountered a young adult male in a wheelchair that was working as a greeter-direction giver.  He asked if he could assist me and when I told him that I was a Shriner and I needed to talk to the manager, he replied, "don't worry I'll get her for you.  You just wait here with me."  As I waited as directed, he said "You know what?  I'm a Shrine Kid.  I was operated on at the Chicago Hospital when I was real young!"

Folks, you just don't know where or when you'll run into one of our Kids!

Again, Thanks to every single guy that stood outside of the stores or, as in some cases, dared to tread among the cars on the roadway to get those funds, a sincere heartfelt thank you on behalf of Moslem Shriners Child Care Program.

Canton Parade

Get ready Canton ... cause here comes the Shriners!

Canton Liberty Fest Parade - June 20, 2009

The next stop on our Moslem parade schedule is in the lovely city of Canton, MI. Canton is a sprawling and ever growing suburban community which lies almost due west of Detroit itself. Canton residents are rightly proud of their Liberty Fest parade which seems to get bigger and better with each passing year. Our Moslem parading Units and Clubs, as usual, are eager to join in on the fun this year as the parade makes it's way down Ford Rd. All Moslem participants should plan on being at the staging area no later than 8:00am.

If you've never experienced seeing our Detroit Area Shriners on parade, this summer is full of opportunities to catch us in action in a city near you. Watch this site throughout the summer for our parade appearance schedule, then slap on some sunscreen, load mamma and the kids into the car, and come on out and watch us do our stuff! Treat your family to an American tradition as old as standing in line at the ice cream shop in summer. A good old home town parade complete with the guys in the tiny cars and distinctive red hats ... the guys they call "The Shriners!"
